CalTIA's Advocacy Program provides a unified public and political voice for the California tourism industry. This program is comprised of three main segments, Legislative & Governmental Affairs Committee, Grassroots Campaigns and Political Action Committee (PAC), working together to effectively raise the overall visibility of the tourism industry as a vital component of California¹s economy.

The Government Affairs Committee regularly develops and, upon board approval, implements a comprehensive strategy that will not only enhance the image of the industry but will also help to educate the Legislature about the tourism industry in order to achieve Legislative success. CalTIA's legislative activities include representation before the California State Legislature, State Administrative Departments and the Governor¹s Office. Each year, CalTIA's lobbyists monitor and comment on a number of bills affecting the tourism industry, taking a proactive approach to ensure that all opportunities are being fully maximized.

Grassroots work is a second crucial element to CalTIA's advocacy program and includes developing/maintaining relationships and coalitions with industry leaders and activists, motivating and educating members on how to become politically involved in protecting their interests on local and state levels, and educating the public and community leaders about the tourism industry. It not only empowers individual members of CalTIA to voice their concerns to their specific senator or assembly member, it also provides a legitimacy to our lobbying power; legislators are more likely to respond to our requests and needs if (1) their constituency actively makes their concerns known to the member, and (2) the member know we represent and advocate for their constituents. CalTIA's Grassroots Campaign promotes and encourages the development of relationships between CalTIA members, both large and small, with their local and state representatives.

In addition to the activities of CalTIA's grassroots Campaign and Government Relations Committee, CalTIA's Political Action Committee (PAC) serves as the third vital component to CalTIA's Legislative & Advocacy Program. CalTIA's PAC actively supports and promotes candidates with similar political ideologies as CalTIA members, while maintaining relationships with current members in order to further develop and expand California¹s tourism industry.
